A couple of awesome things caught my eye last weekend at the St Johns Bizarre. We had gone over for the St. Johns Parade, a kooky spectacle in its own right, going on its 48th year celebrating vintage cars, high school marching bands, pirates, and rodeo princesses, among other things.

I saw these chairs last weekend at the St Johns Bizaar. Handmade in North Portland and super sturdy.
These prints by Jill Bliss are beautiful, and really reasonably priced, at $16-20.

And I really liked the colors of these pieces, painted directly on a wood panel, so no framing is needed.

I need to introduce you to the coolest thing, well, ever. I LOVE dresses. I wasn’t always this way. Last weekend, on Mother’s Day, I was reminded of the many times as a child that I refused to put on a dress, making my mother late and angry. While I still sympathize with my childhood self (was it a requirement that I wear a dress to go to a baby shower?), I can definitely see the irony. These days, I’d like to wear dresses literally every day. Here’s a wardrobe secret if you’re not a dress wearer: dresses are dead easy. No separates to match, no proportions to sort out, just put shoes and maybe a cardi on and you’re done.
All that is to say, imagine my pure, giddy, omg-can-you-believe-this-exists joy when I discovered…The Dress of the Month Club. Best part - though it sounds like it could be, it’s actually not a subscription or commitment at all. Each month they launch a new design and if you want it, you order. They make the dresses custom to your measurements so you know it’s going to be perfect.
This adorable polka dot number? That’s May.

I’m thinking I may have to have this one, on the left:

And how cute is this:

I’m going to order one as a treat to myself very soon. If anyone else orders, I’d love to hear.

So, it’s Thursday and I’m thinking about the weekend’s agenda. It includes:
Baking these homemade pop tarts | smitten kitchen  I’m thinking I’ll make brown sugar-cinnamon, cherry, and maybe lemon curd…
The St. Johns Parade is on Saturday:

The St. Johns Parade is so kooky and I love it.
I’m also hoping to find some time to spend cleaning up the vegetable garden (read: weeding) and planting some bush beans to pickle later this summer.

Those Wieden + Kennedy kids are so on it. Moody, inspired, offbeat. Love it.
